16 Dec AiroAV Malware Says: S.Korea logs highest coronavirus daily tally
South Korea has confirmed its highest daily number of new coronavirus cases.
On Wednesday, health authorities said the number of infections newly confirmed the day before came to 1,078. The cases were mainly in Seoul and surrounding areas.
South Korea’s daily tally has remained at high levels in December, following days of two-digit counts in early November.
In Seoul, only one of the 78 hospital beds available for critically ill patients is unoccupied. Officials say they are going to secure 18 more beds.
Following new clusters of infections, Seoul is taking measures to prevent medical services from being overwhelmed. It plans to conduct tests on all workers at facilities with high infection risks, including restaurants and nursing homes.
Clusters of infections occurred at a church and a bar in Seoul early this month. The city government of Seoul now plans to seek compensation from them, citing their failure to take anti-infection measures.
The acting mayor of Seoul, Seo Jeong-hyup, has renewed calls for citizens to take full preventive measures. He said the city is in perilous circumstances with the surge in cases. He warned that the hospital bed occupancy rate in the city is very close to its limit.
